I live in a townhome in Arizona where our trash cans need to stay in the garage until pickup. With the heat, the smell from decomposing food can be pretty overwhelming. I usually hose down the bin, but it doesn't seem to help much. Are there effective ways to keep the odor under control?

Consider composting most of your veggie scraps, bread, and pasta. For meat, you can bag it tightly or freeze it until it’s trash day. Some people even do vermiculture composting, but that has its own challenges with odors and pests.
If you’re allowed to, maybe see if you can build a little shed for your garbage outside instead of keeping it in the garage. Just to keep it out of sight!
Sadly, it has to stay in the garage, but I like the idea!
One of the best tips is to freezing any food scraps until garbage day. Just throw them in a bag and put them in the freezer. It’s simple and helps a ton with the smell!
Yep, this is what I do! Just remember to check the freezer on trash day so you don't get stuck with extra scraps.
Definitely a game changer! Especially if you've got pets that love digging through the trash.

Right! And for home composting, just keep in mind you need a lot of carbon material to balance it out.
