Toilet Bubbles and Bathtub Overflow During Washing Machine Rinse – What to Do?

Asked By CleverPineapple42 On

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue where my toilet bubbles and the bathtub drain overflows every time my washing machine is in the rinse cycle. I've already tried snaking and using Drano on the laundry drain, bathtub drain, and the roof pipe, but the problem persists. We've even put a fabric drain sleeve in the laundry pipe. Additionally, the toilet sometimes has trouble flushing. Any advice on what I should do next?

Definitely call a plumber at this point. You’ve likely done all you can regarding blockages at your fixtures. A scope of the main waste line might be needed to find out if there’s corrosion, roots, or another blockage. Drano can sometimes make things worse by hastening pipe corrosion, so it’s better to let a pro handle it.

And make sure to mention the Drano to the plumber when you contact them!

It sounds like you might want to check your main sewer line. A blockage there could be causing all these issues, especially if you've already cleared out the drains at each fixture. Consider opening up the clean out in your basement to see if there's a backup. Just be ready with a bucket in case things get messy!
