Toilet Overflowing After Flushing Paper Towels—What Can I Do?

Asked By FlusteredFrog92 On

I accidentally flushed some paper towels and now my toilet is overflowing. To make matters worse, someone also used the toilet while it was clogged, so it's a total mess. I don't have a plunger, all the stores are closed, and I really can't afford a plumber right now. Any help would be appreciated!

If you’re asking for help here, it might be time to call a plumber. This could require more than just some home remedies, especially with the mess you’ve got going. Don’t stress too much though, it happens to the best of us!

Try searching on YouTube for ways to unclog a toilet without a plunger. People have had success with things like cling film or Saran Wrap, just makes sure to follow the instructions closely!

If you can, hold tight until the stores open and grab a snake to unclog your toilet. In the meantime, just try to avoid using it again until you can get the issue sorted out. Or, you know, plan an emergency pit stop at a friend's house!

If you've got the arm strength, find a 6-foot toilet auger. It can help you clear the blockage without needing a plunger. Just a little intimidation—it’ll take some effort!

I don’t even have a plunger, you think I have an auger lying around?

First off, turn off the water supply to the toilet if you can. That might help reduce the overflow situation. If the knob is stuck, you might need some muscle to handle it.

Yeah, the knob is refusing to budge. Super frustrating!

You could try to get in there with a plastic bag and dig out the paper towels. Make sure you have gloves, cleaning spray, and a garbage bag ready because it’s gonna get messy. Just a heads up, the clog could be further down the line, which would make it harder to fix without proper tools. Good luck!

To make matters worse, you're gonna have to use your own hand. Just be ready for it to get gross—there's no easy way around this right now!

Honestly, man, your house is cooked. If all else fails, you might want to consider moving out and starting fresh! Just kidding, but it sure feels like it right now, huh?
