Toilet Still Leaking After Changing Bolts – What’s Up?

Asked By PlumbCrazy88 On

I recently changed the bolts on my toilet because I noticed a leak that started overnight. After I switched out the bolts, the toilet is still leaking slightly. I did put on a rubber seal, but I'm not sure what else might be causing the issue. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just checking—did you put on a new wax ring when you replaced the bolts? The wax ring is super important because it creates the seal around the base of the toilet.

I didn't use a wax ring; I went with a metal one and rubber seals instead. Maybe that’s the problem?

Hey! So, not a pro plumber here, but I've learned that a wax ring is key for toilet installs. You might want to grab one of those thick wax rings with the funnel shape in the middle—they've always worked well for me!

Thanks for the tip! I only used a rubber seal, but I'll check out the wax rings.
