Total Gardening Noob: Where Should I Start with My New Acre?

Hey everyone! I recently went from no gardening experience to having over an acre of land, and honestly, it feels a bit overwhelming. I've done some Googling and watched a bunch of YouTube videos, but there's just so much info out there that a lot of it assumes I already know the basics—spoiler: I don't! Right now, I'm in the process of clearing the land, which involves dealing with some large rocks, and I know I need to check my soil type first. My ultimate goal is to create a vegetable garden, but I'm also considering planting clover or wildflowers in some areas since I'm not a fan of traditional lawns. I'm located in Central Portugal, with a climate zone of 9, and I've heard from a neighbor that they successfully grow bananas in the area. Given all this, could you recommend some good resources or a quick list of the first few things I should learn? I appreciate the help!

You might also want to check out Anne of All Trades for some 'lazy gardening' methods. She's all about making it easier to keep those pesky weeds under control. I’d suggest starting with her videos on using cardboard and mulch to suppress weeds—it can save you a ton of time! Just a heads up, transitioning from zero to an acre will definitely eat up a lot of your time this summer, so brace yourself!

Lazy gardening sounds perfect! I agree, I don't want to get burnt out too quickly. I’m planning on focusing on land clearing this year, but I want to learn as much as I can for next year’s planting.
