Triangular Gap in Doorway – How Can I Fix This?

Hey everyone,

I recently had a contractor build a small storage room under my stairs, and during the install, they cut into the wall for the door. Now there's this annoying thin, triangular gap on one side of the door. The contractor claims that it can't be fixed, but I think there's gotta be a solution!

I want to cover up this gap without using weatherstripping because that would mess up the aesthetics. So, I'm looking for clean and low-profile fix ideas. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A great way to cover up that gap is by adding some trim around the edges of the door. You can make the trim extend a bit past the door's surface so it will sit flat against the wall when the door is closed, giving it a nice finished look.

Totally agree! That trim will really help frame the door properly and hide those gaps well.

I'm confused - how does this even count as a door without hinges or a handle?

It's actually behind the rectangle-shaped structure you see! Just a little awkwardly done.

You might want to consider shimming the door frame to square it up or cutting the door itself to ensure it hangs level. This could help minimize the gap too!
