I'm having a real issue with this shut-off valve in a tight space. The compression nut just won't budge, and it looks like there's some pipe dope on the threads, making it even tougher. I'm worried I might break or damage the pipe since I can't get good leverage in this cramped area. Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Have you tried using two wrenches? One on the compression nut and another on the valve body? It can really help to distribute the force when you’re crammed in there.
If you're okay with a bit of hassle, consider just removing the toilet. You'll need to replace the wax seal, but that's pretty inexpensive. Just watch out; I can think of some other tricky ways to get in there, but they could backfire and you'd end up with a wrench flying at your face!

I actually have one wrench on the nut and using vice grips on the other side. Still no luck!
