Trouble with My 24″ Double-Walled Culvert: How Can I Find the Bad Joint?

A year and a half ago, I had my 120-foot concrete driveway replaced due to some severe cracking. It turns out the previous builders had covered a U-shaped drain with corrugated tin and dirt before pouring the driveway. My driveway drains downhill, collecting water from the neighborhood, and leads to an open drain at the back of my property. After digging up the driveway and installing a double-walled 24-inch corrugated culvert, everything seemed fine until about six months ago when I noticed sinkholes forming near the edge of the driveway. I investigated one joint by cutting a hole in the top of the pipe and found it improperly fitted, causing water to leak. I fixed that joint, but now I see more sinkholes, suggesting another bad joint. I really don't want to crawl through 80 feet of pipe looking for issues. Any suggestions on how to find the problem spot?

Have you considered using a remote-controlled car? You could strap a WiFi camera or even a GoPro to it and send it through the pipe to see what's going on. There's a product called Wyze Car that could work for this!

I seriously thought about putting a camera on my 3-year-old granddaughter and sending her through, but my daughter was not having it!

You might want to consider using an inspection camera to check the joints. It can help you identify where the issue is without having to crawl through the pipe. Just be sure it fits well since the pipe is corrugated, but the inside is smooth, so it could work!

Who has one of those? I thought it could be problematic due to the pipe's shape. I'm just frustrated with the contractor who did this. It's been quite the costly ordeal for me, but thanks for your quick response!

Yeah, finding it is one thing, but making that repair is another story. I’ve heard of trenchless pipe repair options, but after all the expenses I’ve already had, I'm not sure I can afford that.
