I've wired ceiling fans before, but I ran into a snag with my current setup. I replaced an older fan that didn't have a remote and was only controlled by a switch, which turned both the fan and light on or off together. I recently bought a new remote control to manage the fan and light separately. After wiring everything up, the fan works great, but the switch now only kills the power to the fixture. I can't use the switch to turn the light on anymore; I can only do that with the remote. Is this an issue with the remote I chose or could it be related to my home's wiring? I'm looking for advice on how to get the light to turn on and off with the switch again. Thanks!

Remote-controlled fans can be a hassle, for sure! A lot of people find that they just end up causing issues down the line. If you’re trying to figure out if it’s the remote or the wiring, it may help to know the specific model of your fan and remote control. The compatibility can vary a lot. But since you mentioned your fan doesn’t have a brand or model number, you might need to dig a bit deeper to find that info.

You could potentially bypass the remote's receiver and directly wire the light to power, safely disconnecting the remote function for that. Just make sure to ensure everything's wired correctly and safely do this!
