I'm looking for clarification on the upcoming tariff changes for importing prototype PCBs from China to the USA. I typically order 6-8 new designs each month, spending around $30 per order on PCBs plus shipping. With the De Minimis rule ending on May 2nd, I'm hearing about a potential 125% tariff and also a flat fee of $200 starting in June. Can anyone explain the circumstances under which I'd be charged the flat fee versus the 125%? I'm okay with the percentage but the flat fee would really not be worth it for my orders. I didn't find much specific info on PCBs, so I'm hoping someone here can help!

It’s tough to predict what the tax situation will be like by May 2nd since things can change. Just keep an eye on updates as they come; it could all be different by then. But yeah, you're right to plan ahead!
Exactly, better to stay flexible for now!
There’s been a lot of confusion around these tariffs. Recently, the rates were updated a few times. It looks like on May 2nd we might see a new rule where you pay either 30% of the total value or $25 per item, whichever is higher. This could jump to $50 on June 1st! So for example, a $20 order for 10 PCBs could result in a variety of fees all depending on how customs interprets your order.
Wow, that’s a lot of variables to consider! Thanks for breaking that down.
Have you checked US vendors? I looked at DigiKey's service and their prices are way higher compared to JLCPCB. Even with a potential $200 fee, it's still cheaper to order from China right now. Just something to keep in mind while you’re exploring options.
I’ll definitely compare prices, thanks for the heads up!
Good point! It’s hard to make decisions without knowing what's coming.
