I've been working on making wooden climbing holds for my personal climbing wall, and I'm starting to think about upgrading my dust collection system. Right now, I'm using an old wet/dry vac, which is a hassle since I have to empty it constantly due to clogged filters. I recently got a second-hand 1HP Clarke dust extractor and a cyclone separator, and I'm hoping to connect them. My idea is to pipe the exhaust outside since I don't have to worry about neighbors.
I need some advice on pipe diameters because I'm confused by various YouTube videos. Here are the specifics:
- 1HP Collector: OD 100mm
- Cyclone out: OD 55.4mm, ID 50mm
- Cyclone in: OD 55.5mm, ID 50mm
- Sander: OD 62mm, ID 58.5mm
- Band saw: OD 40mm, ID 35mm
My plan is to step down to 55mm for the cyclone and then run rigid plastic pipe along the setup to my sander and band saw, using some flexible pipes and blast gates along the way. The distances are not long, and I'm hoping it will work. However, I'm seeing conflicting advice saying this might restrict airflow too much. Should I stick with this extractor or look into a different setup, like a shop vac with outside exhaust? Any suggestions?
