Using Perlite for Plant Drainage: Tips and Advice?

Asked By PlantWhisperer99 On

I've been really into plants this year, and I've got quite the collection thriving! Recently, I came across Perlite while researching ways to improve soil drainage and was wondering if anyone here has experience with it. Can you share any tips on how to mix it into my current potting soil? I'm using a standard supermarket mix, and I'd like to know if it's really a game changer or if it's just a minor improvement. Here are the plants I'm caring for: Monstera, Aloe vera, Peace lily, Diffenbachia, Spider plant, Dragon tree, Flaming katy, two lucky bamboos, and a struggling tradescantia that I'm trying to save. I'd appreciate any insights!

A lot of potting soils already contain some Perlite because it helps with aeration, which is crucial for preventing root suffocation. If you really want to make a significant change, you could definitely buy a bag and mix it into your current soil. That way, you'll enhance drainage without losing the nutrients in your mix!

So, would you recommend a specific ratio of Perlite to soil? I'm curious how much to add for the best results!
