Vinyl Siding Installed Poorly: How Can I Fix Air Gaps and Pests?

Asked By CoolBeans987 On

I recently had vinyl siding installed, but I'm noticing some gaps that are letting in air and even pests. The siding is about three years old, and I want to get this assessed and fixed, especially since I plan on doing some renovations inside. I hope I don't get taken advantage of in the process. Who should I reach out to for help?

Do you have any pictures? It might help to see the gaps you’re dealing with. That way, we can give you more specific advice on what to do next.

Honestly, it sounds like you might need a professional siding contractor to take a look. Considering your siding is only three years old and has gaps, it's likely there was an issue with the installation. Definitely get at least two quotes to compare and make sure to address the exterior before you dive into any interior renovations.

Just a heads up, vinyl siding isn't meant to keep out air or bugs really tightly. It’s designed to protect the housewrap from UV damage, but that doesn't stop leaks. You might want to focus on sealing those gaps properly or even consider replacing the siding if it’s really bad.
