Weed Killer Sprayed in My Yard: How Long Until It’s Gone?

Hey everyone, I recently had an issue where my yard person sprayed weed killer in my backyard without my consent. I have a severe chemical sensitivity due to a past exposure that caused anaphylaxis, and I'm really worried about how long it will take for the weed killer to dissipate. It rained a couple of days after the spraying, so I'm hoping that means there's not much left on the surface. He said he won't spray again, but I'm still concerned. Can anyone help me out with how long it usually takes for these chemicals to break down, especially considering the rain? Thanks a lot!

If you don't come into direct contact with the soil, it should reduce the risk of exposure. But honestly, it's tough to say how quickly it will completely dissipate without knowing the exact chemicals involved. It’s always best to ask your yard person for more details; that way, you can plan accordingly!

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation! I know how frustrating it can be when you're trying to avoid chemicals. If you didn’t get an info sheet about what was sprayed, that's a concern. An applicator is required to give you that info – it helps you know what to expect. You might want to check if there are any local regulations or registration options for people sensitive to pesticides.

Good point! It's so important for applicators to provide that info. It keeps everyone safe.

It really depends on the type of herbicide that was used. Different weed killers have different active ingredients, and their breakdown time can vary. If you find out what was used, you can get a better idea of how long it might stick around in your yard. Also, the rain can definitely help speed up the process!

Yeah, knowing the specific herbicide would help a ton! It's such a bummer when things like this happen.
