What are DIY-friendly alternatives to tile for shower walls?

I recently tore out my grandmother's old, rotting tile shower, and I'm in the midst of replacing the damaged plywood subfloor and studs. I initially planned to install a new tile shower, but now I've come across ads for products like Kohler Luxstone. While it looks appealing, their installation services seem limited. I'm looking for other similar DIY options I can consider for the shower walls instead of tile.

Onyx is another great choice! I've done three showers with it, and it’s sold at big box stores. One tip for installation is to create templates from plywood. It helps you get flawless cuts for the panels and avoids costly mistakes. Trust me, this method is a game changer!

Have you looked into Swanstone? It's a solid surfacing material similar to Corian, but it's usually more affordable and easier to find at places like Home Depot. Installation is DIY-friendly, and you'll love the fact that it has no grout lines! Just a heads-up though, it doesn't hold a suction cup easily because of its matte finish, but it's still a solid option.

If you want something a bit different, you might want to check out FlesStone or Dekton. Both can give you a sleek look without the hassle of tiles. Just ensure anything you choose can fit through your doorways to avoid delivery drama! Also remember to install grab bars securely behind the walls for safety.
