I'm trying to find some outdoor plants that can survive the winter and can be planted in autumn. Ideally, I'm looking for options that won't mind not getting a ton of sunshine since my garden is north-facing and only gets limited daylight. Also, I really need them to be really unappealing to cats, as I'm trying to keep my garden litter-free. I used to have grass there, but after a mishap while strimming, I decided to remove it and just put down some mulch with decorative elements. Any suggestions?

Consider planting holly! It thrives in full shade and has those prickly leaves that will definitely keep both cats and curious kids at bay. Just be careful—those leaves can be quite painful if you get caught up with them!
As for the plants, just steer clear of any lavender varieties since some cats actually love those. Prickly plants will work best, plus they add a nice aesthetic touch to the garden!
Cats can be persistent little troublemakers, but one way to keep them away is to avoid big bare patches of soil. Anything that’s prickly works well—roses and other thorny plants are a great bet! I've used bamboo stakes in my garden, and so far, they’ve done a great job of keeping those furry squatters away.

True! I learned that the hard way too. Those thorns can sneak up on you when they’re all skeletonized.
