What are my options for closing off a room with a double doorway?

My husband and I just got our first house, and we're thinking about closing off our office room. Right now, it just has a wide opening with an arch, and it's double door-sized. I'm considering a pocket door, but I'm worried the wall might be load-bearing. I'm not a fan of sliding farmhouse doors, so I'm looking for some creative ideas!

Be cautious—if you seal off a room without proper heating or cooling, it could lead to moisture problems and mold. But if you have vents in the room like you mentioned, that should help mitigate the issues!

Yeah, the house has central heating and cooling, and the room has two vents, so I’m not too worried about that aspect.

We did something similar in our Florida house, and we used French doors with glass panels. They work great and let in light, plus they look really nice!

You might want to consider installing sliding French doors inside the walls of the office. If you're feeling adventurous, how about a secret bookcase door that slides on tracks? A simpler option could be to put up a curtain if you’re looking for something less permanent.

What if you sandwich a pocket door between the existing wall and a new built-in bookcase? That could look pretty neat!

I'd suggest you post a picture for better advice! But from what you’ve shared, double doors seem like a solid choice. You could even go for double doors with an arched transom if you want to spice things up. Just a heads up though, they can get pricey!
