It looks like there's some missing siding, and the insulation looks pretty poorly done. This was the situation when I moved in, and I want to address it before it leads to more problems. My budget is tight, so I can't replace the siding, but I'm open to creative DIY solutions that won't look terrible. Time and extra hands aren't an issue, so any advice on how to make it both functional and visually appealing would be greatly appreciated!

First off, you'll want to remove the threshold and clean out any damaged materials. Then, grab a piece of PVC board, cut it to size, and fasten it securely in place. Use spacers if necessary and some strong screws to ensure it holds. Finally, put the threshold back on. It should really help!

You might also get away with just replacing the riser and threshold, plus some caulk to seal everything up. If the exposed area is significant, consider using a more durable material instead of wood, as it might hold up better over time.
