What Are Some Easy Plants for a Gardening Newbie?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on low-maintenance edible plants or vegetables that I can grow. I have a tendency to kill just about everything I've planted — jalapeños, tomatoes, strawberries, and even potatoes have all failed me. I can get a few plants to sprout, but they usually don't last long enough to produce any fruit. I'm located in the southeastern USA, USDA Hardiness zone 8A/8B, and would love recommendations for plants that I can just toss outside and let be without them taking over the yard. Any ideas?

Raspberries are practically weeds; you can neglect them and still get a good harvest. Just keep in mind that in the southeast, they thrive with little care. You might also want to look into beets or even a small pear tree if you have one. They can be quite forgiving!

You can't go wrong with garlic! Just plant some cloves in the fall or spring and leave them alone - they practically grow themselves. It's exactly the kind of care you need!

You might want to try cherry tomatoes like 'Sun Sugar' or 'Sweet 100' – they do well in a lot of environments. Also, thornless blackberries are solid and don't take much care. Tromboncino squash is another great choice; it grows easily!

Have you checked if your plants are getting enough sun? I thought mine were fine until I realized they were missing out on a lot of sunlight. As for easy plants, okra is really hard to mess up and it produces a lot! Just make sure it's getting enough sun!

Don’t forget about herbs! Chives are super easy to grow, and they add great flavor to meals. Also, you might want to check your watering habits, especially in that heat. Sometimes, you just have to be consistent about it!
