I'm on the hunt for a fast-growing hedge to plant against my fence, and since I live in Zone 4, I'm dealing with some tough winter conditions. I particularly love hydrangeas, especially the bush type, so I'm curious if they grow quickly. I've also thought about using northern privets—any insights on their growth rate?

What about planting arborvitae? They could potentially work well for you.
I've heard that hollies can make a nice hedge, although they don’t flower as much as some other options. Just something to keep in mind!
If you're looking for evergreens, there are several hedge plants that do well in Zone 4. Consider options like Green Mountain Boxwood, Wichita Blue Juniper, or even American Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis). These should thrive in your climate!
Great tips! I’d love to see how those look in your area. Evergreens could really complement the landscape.
Hydrangeas can be pretty quick-growing! I’ve had mine shoot up a couple of feet each year. They can get a bit big, but they’re beautiful when in full bloom. I'm not super familiar with your region, but best of luck with your search!

Thanks for the suggestion! I live in a secluded mountainous area, so they might look a bit out of place here, but I appreciate the idea!
