What are some good lighting solutions for a kitchen without ceiling fixtures?

I just bought a house and it turns out there are no ceiling lights in the kitchen except for one over the sink. I'm looking for alternatives without hiring an electrician since adding proper downlighting would require cutting a lot of drywall. What are some practical solutions I can consider?

You might want to check out pot lights that fit right into the drywall without needing full electrical boxes. It still means you’ll have to cut some drywall, but it shouldn't be too extensive. You could also consider surface-mounted fixtures and run some conduit along the molding for a creative touch.

If you're wary of cutting into your ceiling, there are super thin pot lights that are easy to install, usually around 1/2" thick. They can fit between joists, and you can go for under-cabinet lights to make your workspace brighter without major renovations.

Do you happen to have attic access? Sometimes, you can find hidden junction boxes that can be really helpful for lighting. If not, you could leverage existing circuits by tying in some can lights from the current one over the sink.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check the attic access and see if I can find anything useful.
