I recently ordered the Kreg KWS-DS100 Dust Separator to improve my basic shop vac dust collection system. After spending ages sweeping up dust and chips from my workshop, I decided it's time to up my dust collection game. I'm planning to use this separator with my jointer, tablesaw, sanders, and hopefully my miter saw, though I'm worried about how to capture all the dust from my Delta Shopmaster 10" saw, which tends to spray dust everywhere. My Dewalt DW735 planer has its own blower, but I've experienced issues with it pressurizing my shop vac and blowing dust around. Since the Kreg dust collector attaches to a 5-gallon bucket, I'm concerned about its capacity. I expect to empty it frequently when using my tablesaw and jointer. Are there any larger buckets that can work with this separator or modifications for a bigger bin, like 35 or 50 gallons, to avoid constant emptying?

If you're looking to expand beyond that 5-gallon bucket, I totally agree! An Oneida cyclone could be a great alternative. Just bolt it down to a flat surface, and then you could modify a brute trash can to hold 30-50 gallons by cutting a hole in the top and sealing it up. Just make sure to reinforce the can, as they can collapse under suction unless you use a strap or an inner support.
Honestly, with a jointer in your setup, sticking with just a shop vac might not be the best route anymore! If you're serious about dust collection, consider going with a budget-friendly dust collector from brands like Harbor Freight or Grizzly. Trust me, it'll make a world of difference in your shop. But if you're set on the Kreg, just know it's really made to function with a 5-gallon bucket.
