I'm looking for suggestions on perennials that bloom in August to keep my garden vibrant. I've noticed that by late summer, most of my perennials have finished flowering, leaving me with just a few annuals like zinnias still going strong. I want to know if there are any perennials that either bloom throughout the summer or specifically start to flower later in the summer. My garden gets a lot of sun, so I'm focusing on plants that thrive in full sunlight.

For late summer blooms, consider planting goldenrods and asters! Both are fantastic for attracting pollinators, and they're well-suited for full sun. While I'm in zone 6, my Liatris aspera is buzzing with bees right now, and there are several other Liatris species with varying bloom times. Also, don’t forget Salvia azurea, which is a beautiful blue sage that blooms late. Check which native varieties are available in your area since they tend to adapt well and support local wildlife.
Definitely look into native plants! I’m in zone 8 and find natives are the best for my garden, especially if you want them to attract pollinators. Heath is an option too—just watch for different varieties with unique traits!
While they’re technically shrubs, some continuous blooming roses work wonders even in zone 7b! My sweet chariot mini rose has been thriving. Aside from that, my sedum is still flowering, and I've noticed my hardy Cyclamen and autumn crocus also making an appearance at this time of year.

Asters are really a great pick! I’m a big fan of the purple varieties myself.
