I'm starting my second year of germinating seeds indoors and this will be my third year gardening. I'm on the lookout for a solid, general vegetable gardening book that I can reference and jot notes in. I know a lot of info is available online, but I prefer having a physical book to use. I live in Zone 6. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

The *Vegetable Gardener's Bible* is definitely a great all-around reference! It’s a bit older, so it doesn’t delve much into modern practices, but it’s thorough and user-friendly. If you’re interested in season extension techniques, check out *The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener* by Nikki Jabbour; it’s a solid resource for getting more out of your garden across the seasons.
You should definitely check out *The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible* or *The Old Farmer's Almanac Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook*. They’re both excellent general-purpose books, perfect for specific crops. If you want to think about gardening more holistically, consider Huw Richards's books like *The Permaculture Garden* too. They dive deeper into sustainable gardening and soil management practices.
If you're into organic practices, I loved *The Four Season Farm Gardener’s Cookbook* — the first half covers gardening, and it’s filled with wisdom from experienced market growers. *The New Seed Starter’s Handbook* is also a great read! They really emphasize permaculture methods.
I recommend looking for a book that focuses on your specific region. I have *Vegetable Gardening in Southern California*, and it gives tailored advice and planting schedules for Zone 9/10, which has been super helpful.
You might find *Plant Grow Harvest Repeat* by Meg McAndrews Cowden really useful. It covers succession gardening and has helpful guides for starting seeds. She's from a similar region, although in Zone 4/5, so you might just start a bit earlier than suggested to adapt it to Zone 6!
I really enjoy *From Seed to Table* by Luay Ghafari. It focuses on urban gardening and includes some great recipes and photography, though it might not be the detailed reference you’re looking for. Still, it might be worth checking out!
Thank you! I'll definitely look into it.

I might have to pick up a couple of those books. Thanks!
