My wife really wants a palm tree for our garden, but I'm not sure which ones will survive in the UK's cooler weather. Are there any robust palm trees out there that can grow tall rather than just low-growing varieties? I have plenty of space, and my garden gets a lot of sunlight throughout the day, so that shouldn't be an issue.

One option to consider is the Cordyline Australis, also known as the cabbage tree. They're not true tropical palms but look similar. You might check out Eastbourne, where you can find Phoenix Canariensis, Butia palms, and Brahea Armata. If they do well there, they should thrive in your location too!

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like the look of Phoenix Canariensis. Do you think it’s better to start it indoors in my conservatory before moving it outside? It’s quite spacious in there.
