What Are Some Low-Maintenance Plants for a Sunny Balcony?

I'm looking to spruce up my south-facing balcony and make it more inviting. What are some plants that can thrive in pots there? I'm looking for options beyond geraniums, ideally ones that don't require too much care since I have a baby. I lean towards plants that have generous foliage rather than just flowers if that's possible!

Chives in pots are a great choice! They give a nice grassy look, are super easy to grow, and smell fantastic. Plus, they attract bees, and you can snip them for garnishing your meals too!

Lavender would thrive on your balcony; it smells amazing and is great for pollinators. Rosemary and thyme would also do well in those conditions. You have plenty of options, especially if you're okay with a little watering here and there!

Thanks for the suggestions! Watering isn’t a problem; I just prefer something that doesn’t need constant attention.

Consider getting a bay tree! You can shape it however you want, and it’s evergreen, so it’ll look good year-round. Also, ornamental grasses like hardy pennesetum or phormium can add lovely texture to your space.
