What Are Some of the Toughest Plants to Grow?

I've been hearing a lot about plants like spider plants and snake plants being nearly impossible to kill, but ironically, I manage to kill them all. I've got a feeling that I might be better suited for growing the really challenging plants instead! What are some of the hardest plants to take care of?

Knowing why you struggle with certain plants is key! If you tend to overwater, for instance, you should probably go for plants that can handle that like succulents or snake plants. They thrive on neglect! Some folks just can’t resist fussing with their plants, which can lead to trouble, especially with those tougher varieties.

Calatheas are definitely tough for most people, especially if you're not in a humid environment. They really seem to thrive on specific conditions, and if you don't have humidity, they might just wither away! I live in a humid area and still can't keep one alive, they have such high maintenance needs!

I totally get that! I’m in Taiwan and it’s super humid here, but even I struggle with Calatheas. They just seem to have some kind of vendetta against staying alive.

That’s relatable! I live in a dry, desert climate and my Calatheas are doing better than ever, though. Go figure!

I think Philodendron verrucosum is one of the hardest plants to manage. It’s like they have a checklist: move them indoors, boom — fungal infections! Take them outside, bam — spider mites! It's exhausting. I’ve just let one go for good, never again.

Same here! Each mint plant I try just doesn't last, no matter what I do. Maybe I’m just meant to admire them from afar.

Haha exactly! While I can grow other 'difficult' plants, I can't keep the simplest ones like mint alive for some reason.
