Hey everyone! I've been tasked with coming up with fun and simple woodworking projects that kids can do in two 45-minute sessions. I'm looking for ideas that are suitable for children, ideally between the ages of 8 to 12. Any thoughts on what projects might work best?

How about making plant stands? It involves measuring, cutting, and finishing which could be a great skill builder! You might even include some hand tool work for edges. They’re small, so it keeps costs down, too.
It really depends on the age and skill level of the kids, plus whether they’ll be using power tools. For younger ones, getting pre-milled lumber can be a big help. For instance, you can make small boxes where they cut two pieces for the base and lid and one for the sides. The first session could focus on setting it up in clamps and the second on sanding and adding hinges. Plus, these make great gifts for their parents!
That sounds like a great idea! I love that they can make something nice for their moms. Can't wait to try it!
You could go for small stools or benches made from 1x12 and 2x12 boards. They only need to cut a few pieces to length and fasten them together. This project allows for plenty of optional activities like sanding, carving, or even creating cutouts. It’s manageable and offers lots of ways to stretch out the time!
I really like this idea! It's simple but provides a lot of options for creativity. Thanks!

Thanks for that suggestion! I like the idea of keeping costs low and giving them a variety of skills.
