What Are the Best Blackout Curtain Solutions for Light Sleepers?

Asked By SleepyVampire92 On

As a light sleeper, I feel like I can sense the sunrise creeping in, making it hard for me to sleep in. I'm on the hunt to improve my sleep environment but feel overwhelmed by the options for "blackout" curtains that just don't do the job. Has anyone found a truly effective off-the-shelf or DIY solution that blocks out all light? I'm open to layering methods, building custom setups, or anything semi-permanent that looks decent. I want to avoid spending a fortune on a product that fails to perform, so any recommendations from people who've actually experienced success would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try aluminum foil. It really works wonders for blocking out light! Just be cautious, though – if you don’t secure it, it can get noisy. But hey, at least your room will be pitch black!

Yeah, just be sure to stick it down if you can handle the dark all the time!

Have you looked into blackout blinds with side channels? They can be a bit tricky to DIY, but they’ve been the best solution for me. They really trap the light on the sides! You could also check out Ublockout blinds—those have great reviews for thick coverage.

Are these similar to accordion or roller types with trim for light bleeding? Sounds like what I need!

I got a set of blackout curtains from Amazon and they've worked great for me. Just remember that you want them to be wide enough for good coverage; aim for about twice the width of your window for pleats!

Do you have a specific link? I’d love to check them out!
