What are the best low-effort ways to soundproof my basement?

I have a large unfinished basement with a concrete slab and bare block walls, and I've noticed that sound travels quite loudly to the first floor. I think the central HVAC system in the basement may be amplifying the sound throughout the house. Although I plan to finish the basement eventually, I'm looking for suggestions on the best soundproofing options for now that won't require a lot of effort or expense. I've thought about using rockwool to line the ceiling and ductwork, or maybe installing a drop ceiling. Are there any other effective measures I could take to reduce the sound traveling up?

For the best results, insulation between your basement ceiling joists is essential. Make sure to seal any gaps or cracks between the basement and first floor to keep sound from sneaking through. Installing drywall on the ceiling can also help, especially if you decouple it from the joists to reduce vibrations. From my experience, while cheaper alternatives exist, they often fall short.

Using rockwool and a drop ceiling is a solid plan. Both help to reduce sound transmission by adding density and creating barriers. Also, don't forget about your flooring—adding carpet can help dampen sound quite a bit! Just keep in mind that if you decide to look at more specialized products, they can get pretty pricey.
