What are the Best M18 Tools for Heavy-Duty Mechanics?

I'm trying to build up my M18 tool collection, but I don't have much to start with. As a heavy-duty diesel mechanic, I work on a wide variety of fleet equipment and vehicles, including wheel loaders from CAT and Komatsu, backhoes like Case, mini-excavators from Takeuchi, and forklifts from Hyster. On top of that, I service various diesel trucks like Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, and Freightliner, as well as refuse equipment including FEL, REL, ASL, and roll-off bodies from Heil, McNeilus, Marrel, and Galbreath. I also handle gas-powered pickups from Ford and Ram, along with smaller gas-engine equipment. I'd love to hear your recommendations for essential M18 tools!

As a heavy equipment mechanic, the M18 3/8” impact is my go-to for daily tasks. I also find the M18 1/2” high torque and brushless drill really handy. I'm considering adding the M18 grease gun to my collection too!

I don't use the 3/8” impact, I stick with the M12 stubby gen 2 for most jobs and grab the M18 1/2” when I need extra power. I've been debating whether to get the M12 or M18 grease gun myself, they seem pretty similar!

If you're looking to maximize your efficiency, the M18 mid-torque is a solid option, but some mechanics argue that the M12 line has the edge for general use. The smaller tools are lighter and can be just as powerful for most tasks.
