What Are the Best Perennial Flowers to Fill Gaps in My Garden?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to create a vibrant, flowery garden and already have some great plants like magnolia, lilac, roses, peonies, lavender, and geraniums. However, many of these are trees, so I need suggestions for additional flowers that can fill in the gaps. Ideally, I'm interested in hardy perennials that will come back every year. I'm also planning to get some wildflower seeds. Any recommendations?

There are so many options! I recommend adding Geums, hellebores (great for winter blooms), erigeron, euphorbia, verbena, astrantia major, alchemilla mollis, and various irises. These plants not only come back every year, but many will multiply, filling your garden with even more flowers over time.

You should definitely consider Erysimum, especially the 'Bowles Mauve' variety—it flowers constantly! I planted some last spring, and they've been blooming all year. If you want early color, plant some spring-flowering Crocus in your lawn; they look amazing right when winter ends.

Check out Centaurea montana (perennial cornflower) for reliable blooms in blue, pink, and white. Muscari is another great choice; it's loved by bees and will naturalize quickly in your garden. Liatris spicata is compact and attracts pollinators, while Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' has stunning yellow flowers. Anemone coronaria also offers gorgeous spring blooms in various colors!

I've just planted some Liatris bulbs next to my gladioli for the first time. Can't wait to see how they turn out!
