What Are the Best Practices for Working with Microcontrollers?

As a beginner in electronics, I'm often confused when I see different components like diodes, capacitors, and resistors in various projects. When should I use them to limit or direct current in circuit design? Currently, I'm working on a project where I'm driving a 36V motor using an ESP32 connected to an H-bridge driver module. I'll also have a small SSD1306 I2C display for feedback like battery levels and throttle percentage, plus some addressable LEDs for visual indicators. I'm curious about common pitfalls or components that people often overlook in such projects. Are there any best practices to follow, or are these modules generally reliable?

Data sheets for your components are gold mines for best practices! They usually tell you exactly what you should include, like pull-up resistors for I2C to ensure stable communication. Also, look for well-established circuit diagrams in books for your H-bridge since it's a pretty standard setup.

Thanks for the tip! I tend to skip the detailed parts of datasheets since they're so dense. I’ll make sure to give them a closer look next time!
