What Are the Best Sanding Tools for Wood Projects?

I've been working on sanding 12' pine baseboards with my DeWalt random orbit palm sander for a while now, and I'm starting to wonder if there's a more efficient way to tackle this task. I initially began with 60 grit paper on my palm sander but decided to switch to an old Craftsman belt sander with a new 40 grit belt, and it really sped things up! It felt like it was doing the job more effectively while still being gentle enough. I guess part of me was just happy to save time. Are there any other sanding tools or techniques that could help improve the process? I think a drum sander might be a bit too bulky for my shop, but I'm curious about other options. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out the Bosch GET75N. I own one, and while it's not a belt sander, it sands incredibly well and leaves a nice paint-ready finish. It really hogs material, similar to the Festool Rotex. Just keep in mind, the type of sandpaper you use matters too; higher quality paper can save you a lot in the long run.
