What are the best ways to prevent mold in a bathroom without windows?

I'm dealing with a persistent mold issue in my bathroom, and it's really stressful. My apartment has no windows, and the exhaust fans aren't effective at all. I already asked maintenance for help, and while they did clean the fan and used mold-resistant paint, it hasn't solved the problem. I'm a single mom living near the poverty line, so I don't have the energy to keep pushing management for help every time they change. I'm looking for practical tips on how to prevent mold on my own. I was thinking about using a box fan, but I'm not sure if that's enough. I'm also open to the idea of a dehumidifier, but I can't afford one right now. Any advice on cleaning and preventing mold would be incredibly appreciated!

Have you thought about leaving your bathroom fan on all the time when you're not using it? That way it can help with airflow and keeping moisture down. You could also crack open a window in another room if it’s not too cold outside! Just a thought.

Yeah, that makes sense! I do keep the fan on frequently, but I worry about energy usage. If I could keep another window open while showering, it might help too!

I've found a small dehumidifier to be super useful for my bathroom with no fan. It works wonders when I start taking showers—just plug it in and let it run! If you can manage to get one eventually, it might be a game-changer for you.

You might want to try taking cooler showers instead of hot ones to reduce steam. If you have a bathtub available, taking a bath can also help keep the humidity down, even if it sounds tough to get a teenager to join in on!

Haha, getting my 19-year-old to take a bath might be a challenge! But I can definitely lower the shower temperature to see if that helps.

Consider getting a shower door instead of a curtain if possible. Doors keep steam in better, and after showers, use a squeegee on the walls. This will help everything dry out quicker! Also, try drying towels in another room to avoid excess moisture.
