What are the potential drawbacks of using carpet tiles for my garage floor?

I'm thinking about using self-stick carpet tiles (like the ones from Costco) to line my garage floor. What downsides should I be aware of before going this route?

It also depends on what you use the garage for. If you store cars, tools, or gas, the flammability of the carpet could be a concern. Plus, trapping moisture under the tiles is risky. The manufacturer's manual suggests having spare tiles for cleaning, which can be a hassle. Have you considered using tiles specifically made for garage floors or rubber mats instead?

I plan to park cars, but I'm considering it for a home gym area. A neighbor carpeted his garage, but he probably sealed it first. I could see that working if you're careful.

One major concern is moisture. If your garage has humidity issues, you could end up with mold growing underneath the tiles. So, you might want to think twice about that if it's damp in there.

Is that where epoxy sealing comes into play?

A good test is to cut a piece of a ziplock bag and tape it to the floor for a few days. If you notice condensation forming under it, that means you should consider sealing the concrete first. Otherwise, you might be in for some trouble later on!

Good tip, thanks!
