One clear sign of insufficient light is when you notice smaller new leaves and an increase in the space between leaves, which makes the branches look stretched. This phenomenon is known as etiolation. It shows that the plant is reaching for light.
Another indication can be seen in colorful plants. They often lose their vibrant colors and may revert to green as they struggle without enough light. This change can be pretty noticeable.
If the leaves that are usually firm start to feel soft and droopy, that's a bad sign. You might also see normally convex leaves turn concave, with edges curling down. Additionally, lower leaves tend to yellow and drop off more quickly when light is lacking.
