I recently bought a property and I'm tackling a major weed problem in my yard—it's mostly weeds, but I'm determined to get it under control. While pulling up the weeds, I discovered ceramic tiles buried beneath them. They are square white tiles that look like they belong in a kitchen or bathroom and seem to be layered at least twice. I'm not talking about a path since there are separate stepping stones in the area. I'm curious if anyone has encountered this and what these tiles might have been used for, especially considering that the back of my garden is slightly higher than the front. Any insights?

What type of tiles are they? Are they modern? Who knows, you might have stumbled upon a little piece of history like a Roman villa! ?
It sounds like they might have just buried the tiles instead of disposing of them properly! Grass doesn’t need super deep roots, so they might have thought it was easier to hide them. But if the tiles were cemented or grouted in, that's a different story!
Thanks for your input! It's annoying because the dump is so close, just 10 minutes away. Luckily mine are not grouted or cemented, so I can get rid of them easily!
Totally! I found over thirty concrete blocks left by a builder in my garden from decades ago, so it might just be a common thing for people to do.

They're just basic white flat tiles, nothing exciting! The house was actually built on an old breakers yard about 30 years ago.
