What can I do about a non-flush access panel in my drywall?

I had a plumber cut into my drywall to access the tub, and he left a panel to cover the hole. Unfortunately, the studs inside the wall are preventing the panel from resting flush. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

Another option is to add some thin trim around the hole to give the panel a nice finish. If the studs aren't load-bearing, you could even chisel them down a bit to create a better fit for the panel.

Modifying the panel sounds like a safer bet than messing with the studs!

One simple solution is to get a different access panel that comes in various sizes. It might just need a panel that fits the opening better.

Totally agree! It seems like the plumber could have chosen a better fit to begin with.
