What Can I Do With Pots That Don’t Have Drainage Holes?

I've got a couple of gorgeous pots that were gifted to me, but there's one issue—they don't have any drainage holes! I mainly use pots for flowers on my porch and back deck, and I know drainage is crucial for healthy plants. I'm really at a loss here. Does anyone have some clever hacks or ideas on what to do with these pots?

You can actually drill holes in the bottom if you're up for it! Just make sure to use a special drill bit for ceramic. It can be a good solution as long as you're careful!

Drilling holes sounds risky. How do you do it without breaking the pot?

A great option is to use a liner inside the pretty pot. You can place a smaller pot that has drainage holes inside it. Just remember to keep an eye on your watering, so it doesn't get too soggy. I also elevate the inner pot a bit using things like condiment cups for lighter pots or PVC rings for heavier ones. You can even get water gauges to monitor levels!

Those condiment cups are a clever idea!

Elevating the pot sounds smart. I'll have to try that!

One trick I use is to put some rocks at the bottom of the pot to keep the soil from sitting in water. Just be careful not to overwater, and that'll help with drainage! Also, you can put in styrofoam chunks if you want to lighten up the pot a bit. It's worked pretty well for me!

I never thought of styrofoam! Thanks for the tip!

Sounds smart! I'll definitely try the rocks.
