What Can I Grow in a 9-Inch Deep Raised Bed?

I just set up a 9-inch deep raised bed on my deck and I'm curious about what plants would thrive in this shallow space. I'm looking for ideas that are suitable for kids and might be enjoyable for them to grow. Suggestions?

That depth isn't too limiting! You could definitely grow lettuces or herbs. If you want something the kids will enjoy, strawberries are a great choice. They’re fun to pick and eat! Melons and squash might be tricky in such a small bed though, consider smaller plants instead.

You can actually fit quite a few things! Carrots, radishes, and spring onions do well in shallow beds. They’re easy to grow, and the kids can help out! Also, there are short varieties of carrots that would fit perfectly in your space.

Yeah, those French market carrots are a fun option! They grow small and sweet, perfect for your depth.
