What Can I Plant for Privacy After Removing Pine Trees?

I have some pine trees close to my house that are set to be taken down next week. Three of these trees are in poor condition, and one is growing too large for my comfort, being only 12 feet away from my house. While I know I'll miss the shade, my bigger concern is privacy since I live right next to a busy road. I'm looking for advice on what to plant for privacy in zone 5b, especially considering the following: 1. I'll need to plant where the trees will be ground down. 2. There's salt from the road that could harm the plants. 3. I need to think about the plants' height, growth rate, and spacing. I've seen arborvitaes available locally, but I'm unsure if they're the best choice for my situation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as my wife is not happy about the trees being cut down without a solid plan in place.

Have you thought about trying to save the mature trees instead? Replacing them could take years to achieve the same privacy level you want.

Yeah, I understand the situation. You might want to consider if any of them can be preserved without compromising your safety.
