What Can I Plant in a Hollow Tree Stump?

Hey everyone! About a decade ago, I had to cut down one of two big trees in front of my house because an insect infestation had hollowed out the trunk. Now, I've got this 8" high stump left, and it's become an eyesore with some mushrooms popping up in it. I'm wondering if I could add soil to the hollow center and plant something in there? Ideally, I'd love a plant or bush that can grow to around 3' tall and has beautiful flowers or leaves. I'm located in the Chicago area, so any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

How about planting some daffodils? They're super pretty, especially the white ones with orange centers. Just keep in mind they only bloom in the spring, so they might not give you that summer color you’re after. But they are definitely a great option!

Thanks for the suggestion! The daffodils do look lovely, but I’m really hoping for something that stays vibrant all summer long. Any other ideas?
