Hey everyone! I'm new around here and hoping to get some advice. The neighbor next door has a messy yard that looks like a garbage dump. They keep dogs, chickens, and even ducks back there. To make matters worse, our shared fence is looking pretty shabby because they're putting up old pieces of plywood and broken boards to cover holes. We recently paid half to replace a broken post, but they just added shorter posts around it without fixing the actual problem. Our yard is nicely landscaped, and we love spending time outdoors, but now our view is ruined by their makeshift trashy fence. Is there a way to fix this from our side without creating a nest for bugs? I thought about adding some slats, but I'm worried about attracting yellowjackets. Any suggestions?

Honestly, the best solution would be to just put in your own fence on your side of the property line. If you face the good side in, it won’t look trashy for you. You could potentially use the existing posts for support too. Insect nests shouldn’t be more of an issue than before, but just be mindful of the design you choose.
Make sure to check what local ordinances say about how many animals they can have and where the actual property line is. And don’t agree to pay for any future fence repairs! If it's your fence, go ahead and fix it properly.
You could also consider building a faux fence on your property just for visuals; it doesn't have to be expensive! Adding some planters or decorative pieces can help hide the view of their mess too.
