I keep hearing strange noises in my attic during the night, specifically between 2 and 4 am. It sounds like scratching or crunching, and I'm really not sure how to identify it. I'm worried it might be rats or mice, but my dad insists it can't be that because we have fiberglass insulation up there. The attic opening is in my closet and it's a big panel on the ceiling that's hard to access. My dad warned that if he removes it, a lot of debris might fall down and create a mess. I'm feeling really stressed about this and having trouble sleeping. Our house is relatively new, built just five years ago, which may help narrow down the causes. Any thoughts on what could be causing these noises besides rodents?

It sounds like you might have rodents in your attic. Believe it or not, they can get through fiberglass insulation without any issue. I've dealt with a similar situation where I heard scratching noises at night, and it turned out to be squirrels getting cozy in the insulation. When I had an exterminator come, we found walnut shells and droppings up there. It’s definitely worth investigating!

Totally agree! Squirrels are notorious for nesting in insulation. You should definitely check it out soon, and don’t be surprised by some mess. Just make sure you wear a mask for dust!
