What could be making this weird chirping noise in my living room?

I'm dealing with an odd chirping sound in my living room that comes and goes every few minutes, lasting about 20 to 40 seconds each time. I've checked for smoke detectors and confirmed those aren't the issue. I also turned off the AC and fans, and isolated all the kids' toys to make sure they're not the culprits. I really need some help figuring this out! Here's a short video of the sound: https://streamable.com/0tjgzt. Any thoughts?

This could be related to air ducts vibrating. If the weather’s nice, open a window and turn off the HVAC to see if it keeps happening. Sometimes, an unbalanced blower wheel causes vibrations that can shake your ducts, making a noise like that. You mentioned the noise still occurs even when the AC is off, so that could help narrow down the source.

I tried turning off the AC, and it still continues! Starting to think it could be something like a cricket or one of the kids' toys.

From what you’ve described, it seems mechanical. Have you checked if it might be a squeaky fan? If there’s any machinery or fans in the area, that could be the source. You might also want to flip your breakers one by one to see if one of them stops the chirping.

Sounds like someone could be messing with you! There are these cricket prank devices that people buy, and they can chirp randomly to get under your skin. Just something to consider!

Totally! I’ve heard those things can be pretty annoying, maybe check online just in case.
