I woke up to find my ceiling looking really damaged, almost like it exploded. There's a black dot that seems to be a screw in the center of it. I live in a house with a bathtub on the second floor, but I don't see or feel any moisture at all. I'm unsure if this issue is due to a poor paint job or if it indicates something more serious. Any thoughts or advice would really help!

How old is your house? If it’s an older property, sometimes ceilings develop issues like this just from age. I have a place that’s over 100 years old, and we’ve had similar problems. The paint eventually fails, and the weight causes sections to loosen up. In those cases, it’s often just a matter of carefully peeling off the loose parts and repainting. Just so you know, it might not even be moisture-related but just old paint failing.
It looks like you might be dealing with water damage. That’s the most common reason for ceilings to start deteriorating like that. I'd recommend having a professional check it out to rule out any leaks, especially since you mentioned a bathroom above.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely get someone to inspect it just to be safe.

The house is actually about 30 years old, so I'm hoping it's just a bad paint job! I did notice a few bubbles nearby but only air in them.
