What Could This Hidden PVC Pipe Near My Fence Be?

I recently moved into a new house and while trying to plant some fruit trees, I accidentally nicked a hidden 1-inch PVC pipe that's about 15 feet away from the house and 5 feet from the fence. We've got a sprinkler system, but it's currently not operational, and I haven't noticed any sprinkler heads in the backyard. Can anyone help identify what this pipe might be?

That pipe could be a water line of some sort, especially since it's PVC. The fact that it's not gray suggests it probably isn't electric wiring. You might want to inspect more to see where it leads if possible!

It sounds like it could be an orphaned or abandoned irrigation line. I’ve seen similar pipes pop up unexpectedly while digging in my yard, so it might not pose any real issue. Just be cautious!

I really hope that’s the case! I’m not looking to create more problems down the line.
