I've got an interesting situation in my basement. There's a gas line with a valve that connects to a copper tube, which then runs down the foundation wall for a few feet before it goes through the wall and into the soil outside. The strange part is that there's nothing on the outside of the house that appears to be using this copper tube, and the main gas meter is located on the opposite side of the house. Does anyone have any ideas about what this might be for, or what it may have been used for in the past?

I’d guess that line might have been an old propane line, especially if it leads into the ground. Sometimes people switch to electric, and they just leave those lines behind, cutting them off at ground level where the tank used to be. That could definitely be the case here.
Hmm, have you checked for any outdoor lamps? Sometimes, older homes had gas lamps in the yard. But if that's a no-go, maybe it was once used for something like a grill or an outdoor heater? That could explain the setup too, especially if it’s been ages since something was hooked up there. Just a thought!
I found an old lamp in the front yard, but running a pipe to that spot seems odd since it’s so far from it.
