What do you call the metal sleeve used to reinforce drilled holes?

I'm trying to find the right term for a little metal collar or sleeve that you can insert into a drilled hole to prevent it from wearing out over time. For example, I want to reinforce a hole in a birdhouse so that the rope or chain doesn't wear through it eventually. I've hit a wall—Google keeps telling me I've used all my searches for the day!

You might be looking for a 'bushing.' It's commonly used for that purpose, especially in woodworking. You can check it out!

Ferrule might be the term you're after! It usually refers to fittings or collars that help reinforce holes. Just a heads up, they typically go on the outside.

Have you considered calling it a flanged bushing? I found some great images and options online that really match what you’re describing. It seems to be the perfect fit for your needs!
